Using the Kirunavaara mine in northernmost Sweden as a case, the historical and modem consequences of mining activities on the human working environment and methods to assess and prevent accident risks are described. Remediation methods depend on environmentally focused technological development and planning of change, which has to be based on analysis of human activity . Methods to analyse and remediate working environment problems can be useful also in the context of problems related to anthropogenic impact on the natural environment.
