Randomization and alternatives

1999
: The randomized clinical study is being threatened from many perspectives, and participation in such studies shows a falling tendency. Assurance of the best possible treatment for future patients will be considerably weakened if randomized studies have to be replaced by non-experimental studies. This is because the choice of treatment in itself makes ordinary control of confounders impossible both in design and analysis. The rationale of the randomized study and certain alternative study designs are explained in the article.
