Frequency of Carcinoma in Cholecystectomies Performed for Symptomatic Gall Stones

maximum number of patients, 3 (60%), were in the age group of 51 to 60 years. The remaining two patients had ages of 48 years and 69 years respectively. The mean age was 58.5 years. In this study, out of 5 patients with adenocarcinoma of the gallbladder four (80%) were females and one (20%) was male. Using TNM staging three (60%) patient were in stage I and two (40%) patients had stage II disease. Conclusion: Carcinoma gallbladder is often unexpectedly discovered in cholecystectomy specimens removed for benign gallbladder disease, therefore histopathological examination of every removed gallbladder specimen should be routinely performed.
