There is disclosed a thermal transfer recording medium having a colorant layer containing a heat-fusible substance and a colorant formed on a support, the colorant comprising a copolymer obtained from an alpha -olefin and an acrylic acid derivative represented by the formula (I): (I) wherein R1 represents a hydrogen atom or a methyl group and R2 represents a straight or branched alkyl group having 1 to 8 carbon atoms, or vinyl acetate, with the content of the above acrylic acid derivative and vinyl acetate as a monomer unit being 10% or more and of a copolymer having a melt flow index of 8 to 40 G/10 min. and a polyoxyethylene type compound.
