As the characteristic of Maupassant's novel,seeing through the trifle to the essence,the necklace shows us the different living conditions of the different ranks in that society through three stories,borrowing,missing and compensating the necklace.Therefore,it criticizes and satirizes upper bourgeoisie's vanity,Madame Loisel as a victim.
