This document provides a comprehensive review of the population/family planning (FP) situation in Benin as well as substantial recommendations to effect improvements. After an executive summary a summary is provided of recommendations about FP the type of assistance required institutional development population policy and reform IEC (information education and communication) training and human resource development breast feeding FP logistics and supplies management information systems for FP operations research and the financing of population and FP. Chapter 1 places population activities in their institutional context and provides background information as well as data on the public sector nongovernmental organizations private and commercial FP services multilateral and bilateral support to population activities the current status of FP service delivery and FP policy. Chapter 2 looks at government policies and strategies and considers the demographic and economic situation in Benin and provides a general diagnosis of population policies and programs as well as proposals for a plan of action. Chapter 3 covers IEC and Chapter 4 discusses training and human resource development. Chapter 5 presents the status of breast feeding and Chapter 6 discusses FP logistics. Chapter 7 covers the management information system and the final chapter deals with operations research in population and FP.
