Birds of the Break O'Day Valley, Tasmania

There are no modern references in the literature to the birds of the Break O'Day Valley, in eastern Tasmania. The following records are based on the writer's notes extending over 25 years. The geographical and physical features are discussed. Notes on the weather and the type of habitat, and its relation to the physical features, are given; also an outline of the industry and history of the district. Each species that is recorded is discussed, and the paper concludes with a summary of probable birds that have not been recorded and some notable absentees.
