Velocity Measurements in Open Channel Flow with Rectangular Embayments Formed by Spur Dykes

2002
Synopsis Velocity measurements are conducted in open channel flow with rectangular embayments. The measurements were carried out both in a real river and in a laboratory flume. The large-scale PIV (LSPIV) method was adopted for the field measurements, whereas a 2-D electromagnet current meter (ECM) was used in the laboratory measurements. Behaviour of large-scale circulation flow induced in the embayments is the main concern. Factors giving instability on the circulation flow is also discussed.
