Upper extremity injuries are increasingly common among peripheral vascular injuries, as a result of penetrating trauma (Figure 18.1). Blunt trauma may also result in significant vascular injury primarily due to associated injuries such as fractures and dislocations. Injuries to the brachial artery are most commonly reported.
