Distribution and drug resistance of blood culture pathogenic bacteria in Xiamen area

2008
Objective To investigate the distribution and drug resistance of pathogenic bacteria isolated from blood culture in Xiamen area,in order to provide evidence for rational use of antibiotics in clinic. Methods 2 107 cases of blood samples were cultivated in applying BacT/ALERT 120 automated blood culture system. Then species identification and drug sensitivity test were performed with VITEK 2 compact automated bacteria identification and drug sensitivity analytical system. Results Among the 2 107 blood samples,230 strains of pathogenic bacteria were isolated. The positive isolating rate was 10.9%.The gram-positive cocci accounted for 38.7%,gram-negative bacilli 51.7%,and fungi were 9.6%.Staphylococcus and Enterobacteriaceae were main pathogens in bacteremia and septicaemia in Xiamen area.ESBLs-producing strains were found in 43.6% of E.coli isolates and 26.8% of K.pneumoniae isolates. Conclusion The species of isolated bacteria are complicated from the blood cultures and their drug resistance rate is high.Blood culture and monitoring of drug resistance should be paid emphasized on,which is vital for rational use of antibiotics in clinic.
