Magnetic Properties of LaNi1-xCoxO3 (0≤x≤0.5)

Magnetism of LaNi 1- x Co x O 3 (0≤ x ≤0.5) is investigated from 6 to 300 K. Temperature independent susceptibility of LaNiO 3 . increases by Co doping. The increment of the susceptibility obeys the Curie-Weiss law at high temperatures. µ eff is 3 to 4 µ B per Co ion for all the samples. Small spontaneous magnetization is observed at low temperatures. It is explained qualitatively by the almost random directions of spins because of the distributed exchange interactions between Co ions.
