BIOMARKERS IN PROGNOSIS AND PREDICTION OF BREAST CANCER

2018
Early intervention in Breast cancer is a prerequisite to restrict the mortality rate as there is upsurge in Breast cancer cases afflicting millions of people worldwide. However, there is a need to precisely define and design parameters for early detection, grading or staging of breast cancer which further poses a great challenge to the cancer biologists. Mutations in Breast Cancer biomarkers such as BRCA1, ERBB2 and TP53 have been reported to be associated with higher incidence of breast cancer. The comparative account of gene expression of the above biomarkers was reported to be up regulated in Breast cancer patients of Indian and Iraqi origin. The mRNA levels of these marker genes were significantly over-expressed in malignant tissue samples in comparison to the healthy controls. Also there was higher incidence of mutations seen in the hotspot regions of these biomarker genes. Hence, all these biomarkers genes reported in the study hold relevance especially for their prognostic and predictive significance in Breast Cancer.
