Remote sensing of induced electric current in melt for magnetic Czochralski crystal growth

1993
A new diagnostic tool for the study of transient and spatial flow patterns of the melt in magnetic Czochralski crystal growth is proposed. The tool is indirect remote sensing of the induced eddy current distribution inside the melt through the measurement of the secondary magnetic field at various points outside the melt. The principle of reconstruction of the electric current in the melt is described. In a simulation experiment using a rotating top as a moving conductor, an appreciable secondary magnetic field was observed and a corresponding eddy current pattern was reconstructed.
