An investigation of the crosslinking of polyacrylamide with formaldehyde using 13C nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy

NMR results indicate that, in the reaction between polyacrylamide and formaldehyde, crosslinking is due to methylenebisamide formation both intermolecularly and intramolecularly at low pH; at high pH, there is no evidence for crosslinking
