In margine alla notazione sperimentale del madrigale Ita se n’era a star di Lorenzo da Firenze

2014
The «experimental» notation displayed by one of the three witnesses of Lorenzo’s madrigal Ita se n’era a star , although cannot be attributed with certainty to the author, allows to make some observations. The collation, alongside with the analysis of the notation, permits to restore a possible original appearance, transcribing the song in a consistent way, unlike the two major editions currently available. It is also possible to infer that the two versions in the Squarcialupi codex derive from the same exemplar, whereas in the «Longanotation» version, the scribe tried to emend errors, lacunae, and inconsistencies of the «experimental» version (sometimes banalising). The London codex reading, a transcription of which is proposed in the appendix, stands out as the most consistent and less problematic.
