LESÃO TRAUMÁTICA BILATERAL DO NERVO ABDUCENTE: UM RELATO DE CASO

2018
The traumatic brain injury (TBI) plays a substantial socioeconomic role due to its high mortality rate. TBI envolving bilateral sixth nerve palsy is considered rare and presents symptoms such as visual fixation, diplopia and convergent squint. A case of a 59-year-old patient with traumatic bilateral abducent nerve palsy due to an automobile accident is reported. Symptoms included strabismus, diplopia and consequent visual impairment. Management comprised monocular occlusion with eyepatch and butolinum toxin injection. After a year, a medial rectus ressection was carried out. Providing the unlikelihood and relevance of the case, it is important to present diagnostic techniques and therapeutic options.
