Illustrations for the Bible : Preservation Lab Treatment Report

2017
The Chagall Bible enclosures, which are part of the Public Library's Loeb collection, were suffering from physical and chemical damage due to wear and brittle storage materials. The Bibles were originally stored in paper covered portfolio cases stacked within a sleeve. A second non-original sleeve further protected the original enclosures. However, the non-original sleeve has broken due to the difficulty in removing the large objects from the slipcase. Measurements and photographs were taken of the Bibles and enclosures on-site at the Public Library and then new archival storage enclosures were constructed in the lab using these measurements and images.
