Analysis of the Relation Between Chronic Kidney Disease and Acute Ischemic Stroke. (P6.281)

2014
OBJECTIVE: The Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is an entity related to the Acute Ischemic Stroke (AIS) and to other vascular diseases. The objective of the present study is to analyze, according to the experience of our service, the association between CKD and AIS. METHODS: In the period involved between August 2012 up to June 2013 in the Central Military Hospital, 132 patients medical records were studied in a retrospective way. These patients have been admitted with a AIS diagnosis, from which 76 patients have fulfilled the criteria o inclusion that are going to permit to study the CKD defined by Glomerular Filtration Rate (GFR) < 60ml/min/m2 as cohort point, using for medicine the serum creatinine when they were hospitalized. RESULTS: From the patients diagnosed with AIS, 76 patients (n=76) from whom, 26 (32.8%); fulfilled with the criteria for CKD, 14 were women and 11 men. The mean age was of 69% with a minimum of 27 and a maximum of 91 years old. The decrease of the GFR would be in relation with the possibility to present AIS (P< 0.09), therefore, the fall of GFR had had a greater incidence in old patients and with a relation man/women 1:1.3 respectively. CONCLUSIONS: The principal finding of this present study would indicate a strong association between CKD with AIS. From the methodological point of view, this present paper has a principal limitation the size of our sample. However, the found evidence, not only from the bibliographically but also from the obtained one in our experience, supports that the patients with CKD are considered as high risk patients for the potential development of AIS.
