Computational Prediction Model of Macrosegregation in Continuously Casting Steel Blooms

2011
Based on the mixture theory, to clarify the mechanism of macro segregation of blooms, a mathematical model of macro segregation coupled with a heat transfer equation and a solute balance equation is developed. The software is built with VC++ as the program language to predict the process, which can simulate the temperature filed, the solute concentration in the central portion and so on. The semi-analytical and semi-discretizing method is appLied to resolve heat transfer equation and solute equation. The simulation results are in good agreement with experiment values. It is shown that the macro segregation can be well simulated by this software. A solute-enriChed Liquid region is formed in the upstream Liquid region in the final stage of soLidification, which is the main cause of the macro segregation. These results can provide valuable theoretical basis to alleviate or eLiminate macro segregation.
