POSSÍVEIS EFEITOS TÓXICOS DAS PLANTAS QUE CONSTITUEM A BEBIDA "PAU-DO-ÍNDIO"

The approach of the study of plants from their jobs for native societies by oral tradition can give us many useful information for the preparation of studies on these pharmacobotanical, which allows direct the search from an existing empirical knowledge and test it on scientific bases. This study aimed to learn from raizeiros and drink sellers of "Pau-do-indio", to establish the relationship between the active ingredients identified experimentally and toxicity of the body when ingested. For this, it uses the methods of procedure descriptive, experimental and comparative. Data obtained on the active ingredients of the plants were correlated in the scientific literature on their toxicology. It was concluded that the researchers made use of diverse plants included in 26 species of 20 families and that the analysis of samples taken in the laboratory presents symptoms consistent with the hallucinogens, abortifacients, tachycardia, high blood pressure and malaise in the back of scientifically literature.
