The immobilization of adult male and female elephant loxodonta africana with etorphine and observation on the action of diprenorphine

Fourty-two adult elephant (22 males and 20 females) were captured in the Etosha National Park with etorphine (M99 Reckitt). The utilization of a helicopter resulted in the capture of 41 elephant in 7 days. The mean immobilization time was 14 min 56 seconds. The capture operation was successful and only one death was recorded.
