Modelling and evaluation of linked MOVA for motorway junctions

2008
Current traffic modelling software for signalised junctions/networks (ie LINSIG, TRANSYT and OSCADY) are unable to fully represent self optimised MOVA control systems. Increased use of micro simulation models in recent years has opened a window of opportunity for better presentation of MOVA operation in traffic models. Vehicle Actuated Programming (VAP) within a VISSIM module has been used to develop a selfoptimising Linked MOVA control system. This paper introduces a methodology using microsimulation modelling and programming techniques to evaluate the benefits of Linked MOVA. The VAP programming has been used to develop the controller logic for the MOVA system at the M62 Junction 7 gyratory. The entire program functions satisfactorily in all VISSIM models and provide benefits. (A*)
