Agitating Granulation and Compression Compact for Compacting Detergents

2001
In the present study, we conducted fundamental experiments on the production of compact detergents with granulation and powder coating method by focusing on the characteristics of agitating granulation. Then, tableting of detergent granules was carried out in order to produce detergents with higher bulk density. As a result, granulated detergents had a bulk density of 1.92 to 2.1 times the raw powder (approximately 53 percent decrease in volume) because of the shear, compaction and tumbling effects of the agitating granulator. It was shown that the compacted detergent granules were accurately measurable with a spoon for the use. The optimum conditions of high-speed agitating granulator for producing the compact detergent granules were determined.Compression of granulated detergents into tables enables the handling of detergents in number. Tablets of granulated detergents had a bulk density of approximately 3 times the raw powder (65 percent decrease in volume). The tableting conditions for the tablets to have sufficiently high strength and fast disintegration and dissolution were also determined.
