Endovascular Treatment of Intracranial Dural Arteriovenous Fistulas

2014
ndovascular treatment has become the treatment of choice for the vast majority of dural arteriovenous fistulas (DAVFs) E when invasive treatment is indicated. With current technological improvements, development of new embolic materials, and a better understanding of the angioarchitecture and pathophysiology of these lesions, treatment of DAVFs can be individualized based on the specific characteristics of each lesion. Endovascular treatments can be schematically divided into transarterial and transvenous methods, and the type of treatment is selected based on the patient’s symptomatology or clinical presentation, fistula angioarchitecture, location, and operator’s preference (7).
