Children's Counselling Service: An Integrated Response to Meet the Unique Needs of Children in SAAP Services

The aim of this paper is to draw attention to a specialist program operating in the Hume Region that assists homeless services to improve their current practice and procedures regarding children, and to advocate for the unique needs of children who are homeless. The Hume Region Children's Resource Program was established in 2001 from funding provided by the Department of Human Services. The program, one of 9 positioned across the state, aims to improve outcomes for children in the Homelessness Service System by assisting to coordinate and develop an integrated service system approach that focuses on prevention and building the capacity of families to care for their children.
