A Left-Hand Circularly Polarized Patch Antenna Operating in n79 Band for 5G Applications

2021
A low profile circularly polarized patch antenna working in the n79 frequency band for the fifth generation communication system is designed in this paper. The antenna is designed using the commercially available FR4 substrate with an overall dimension of 18.8mm x 18.8 mm x 0.8mm. Circular polarization is obtained by using diagonal slot and truncated edges in the patch and is further enhanced by placing an inverted L-shaped slot in the ground plane. The proposed antenna operates in the n79 new radio (NR) 5G frequency band with an -10 dB bandwidth of 500 MHz (4.48 –4.98 GHz). A stable left hand circular polarization (LHCP) is realized from 4.61 GHz to 4.7 GHz with a 3 dB axial ratio bandwidth of 90 MHz. Also, the proposed antenna achieved good radiation pattern with acceptable gain and radiation efficiency values.
