CFD Simulation of Serpentine S-Duct with Flow Control
2015
Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation results for a compact offset intake diffuser with flow control devices are presented in this paper. This work is a continuation of the second AIAA Propulsion Aerodynamic Workshop (PAW02). Serpentine S-duct with vortex generators (VGs) is first simulated and the predicted results are compared with measured wind tunnel test data. VGs with several layout and geometric variations, such as total VG number, height, and orientation angle, are considered. The flow recovery and circumferential distortion averages are computed to measure the flow efficiency. A preliminary evaluation of active flow control is also considered in this study. A simple flow control implementation indicates that high inlet flow quality can be achieved.
