Michael Newman - Selected Writings Vol. 1: Artists of the Still and Moving Image

2013
This volume brings together the collected writings of British writer, art historian and professor Michael Newman. As both an art historian and critic Newman has written extensively on contemporary art, focusing in particular on the image in its relation to language, the question of how art works manifest themselves and the traces and archive of the event. He currently teaches at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and is Professor of Art Writing at Goldsmiths College in the University of London. This publication brings together a selection of Newman’s writings since 1983, featuring artists such as Jeff Wall, John Stezaker, Tacita Dean and Steve McQueen. His texts have been published in exhibition catalogues for Tate Britain, Lisson Gallery and Gagosian Gallery; in Routledge and Reaktion Books; as well as a variety of art magazines and journals.
