CALANUS HELGOLANDICUS (CLAUS)
1981
According to the parts of inertial movement of Calanus helgolandicus got at cinogramms, drag coefficients CD were calculated. The drag relation CD from Reynolds number at 4 ways of swimming, observed in laboratory conditions, were determined. Coefficients of hydrodynamic resistance CD are calculated from the section of C. helgolandicus inertial movement obtained in cinogramms. Dependences of CD on the Reynolds numbers are presented for four modes of swimming which are observed under laboratory conditions. The values of CD vary within the limits of 0.26-10.5, which is 2-3 orders higher than in nectonic animals. The power values spent for swimming by the copepod are calculated on the basis of real movement trajectories. The power is estimated under variable regime of swimming: moving alternatively in four modes without long stops, the average velocity being 2 cm/s, Calanus helgolandicus develops power which is equal to 15.3·10-4 cal/h, which is two orders higher than in uniform movement with the same velocity.
