A SHIELDING DISTRIBUTION ANALYSIS MODEL FOR A SPACECRAFT

2005
Some simple models of the instruments are constructed according to their shape and the outside shield as well. The instruments could be positioned as the guildline of the design of the spacecraft. The spatial distribution of coating thickness for a chosen position could be derived with ray-tracing technology, which simulated the particle coming in from various directions. The true length that the ray traveled in the material would be the shielding thickness in this direction.By scanning the full space we could obtain the 3D distribution of the shielding thickness. This is a simple way to estimate the protection of some important components. The model is easy to apply and has been used in investigating the shielding for several key components onboard TC-1 satellite.
