Disclosed are a novel sodium-ion battery and a method for preparing same. The novel sodium-ion battery comprises: a cathode, an anode, and electrolyte, wherein the cathode comprises a cathode active material layer comprising a cathode active material; the anode comprises an anode current collector but does not comprise an anode active material; the cathode active material comprises one of carbon materials and carbon material composites, sulfides and sulfide composites, nitrides and nitride composites, oxides and oxide composites, carbides and carbide composites, materials of a layered crystal structure and composites thereof that allow intercalation of anions which form a sodium salt, or combinations thereof. A method for preparing the novel sodium-ion battery mainly comprises the following steps: preparing an anode; preparing electrolyte; preparing a cathode; and assembling the prepared anode, electrolyte, and cathode into a battery. The novel sodium-ion battery provided in the present invention uses a material allowing intercalation of anions which form a sodium salt as a cathode active material and does not comprise an anode active material, and therefore is environment-friendly and low in costs; moreover, the weight and costs of the battery are greatly reduced, and the energy density of the battery is improved.
