GC-MS ANALYSIS AND ANTIMICROBIAL ACTIVITY OF CINNAMOMUM VERUM GROWN IN SUDAN

Common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) is a legume com- monly grown in sub-Saharan Africa for food, cash, ani-mals’food, and as soil improver.[1] Common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) is a legume com- monly grown in sub-Saharan Africa for food, cash, ani- mals’food, and as soil improver.[1] Cinnamomum verum is considered as a natural remedy for respiratory, digestive and gynecological ailments. It is also useful for treatment of bronchitis, itching, urinary tract and digestive tract related diseases . In this study Cinnamomum verum. seed oil was analyzed by GC-MS The analysis revealed the presence of 25 components. In the well diffusion bioassay the oil showed significant activity against Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, Escherichia coli and the yeast Candida albicans.
