Performance Measurement of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Malaysia: Implications for Enhanced Competitive Advantage Toward the Implementation of TQM

This paper discusses the performance measurement (PM) of small to medium enterprises (SMEs) and focuses on manufacturing industry in Malaysia. This paper shows the current performance situation and provides guidance for companies’, especially manufacturing sector in Malaysia by considering the implementation of Total Quality Management (TQM). The method used in this paper is by doing the survey and analysis of the data collection as well as to implement the objective of this project. A total of 80 survey SMEs manufacturing industries in Malaysia participated in this survey. The companies are measured based on the number of year established and the number of employee with each TQM aspect. The result concludes that the companies in SME manufacturing sector still need to improve in order to implement the government target of SME improvement.
