Regulated utilities will play a key role in the development of renewable energy sources as they respond to an increasing demand for electricity. Decentralized technologies allow utilities to reduce the demand for gas and electricity, while centralized renewable technologies allow utilities to supply gas and electricity from renewable fuels. The development of both kinds of applications will depend largely on laws, regulations, and cost factors.
