A comparison between the performance and some qualitative characteristics of different wheat genotypes in salt stress conditions

2012
To compare the performance and some qualitative characteristics different cultivars and lines of wheat in salty condition, five line of wheat including MS-87-4, MS-87-5, MS87-6, MS-87-7 and MS-87-8 along with four other genotypes as controls including Bam, Arge, Kavire and Afghan were selected. The experiment was performed in 2009/2010 growing season. The experimental design was randomized complete block with three replicates and 9 treatments. The results showed that there was a significant difference (p<5%) in the 1000 kernel weight and the grain yield between the lines and species. Moreover, there was a significant variation (p<1%) between the lines and species in the grain protein percentage, the grain hardiness percentage, the Zelni value and ash percentage. A comparison between the average of the treatments shows that Arge, which was cultivated as a control, had the highest grain yield (6.290 tons per hectare), followed by MS-87-7 (6.030 tons per hector), Bam (6.013 tons per hector), MS-87-6 (6.007 tons per hector), MS-87-5 (5.907 tons per hector) and Kavir (5.780).In addition, MS-87-4 had the highest protein percentage (16.067%), Zelni value (68.667%) and hardiness percentage (46.333%). Correlation analysis between traits indicates that there was a significant positive correlation between the Zelni value and the grain hardiness (p <1%), and also there was a significant positive correlation between the number of seeds per spike and the seed and biological yield (p< 5%).
