Effect of capping methods on morphology of silver nanoparticles: A study on medium-induced release of silver from nanocomposite β-cyclodextrin/alginate

Novel multi-functional nanocomposites were fabricated from polysaccharides, alginate (Alg) and β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) via the ionotropic gelation mechanism. The different procedures for capping silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were used to synthesize the nanocomposites AgNPs@β-CD/Alg. The aqueous extract of L. indica was served as the green reductant for optimized synthesis of AgNPs. AgNPs were incorporated and stabilized by the different β-CD/Alg that induced changes in their morphology. The average sizes (10.0 - 30.0 nm) can be controlled by different stabilization agents. Effect of the capping methods were evaluated for catalytic activity of degradation reaction of methyl orange. The results demonstrated that synthetic methods induced the obvious influence on the catalytic efficiency and recyclability. The mechanism of AgNPs catalysis relied on Langmuir−Hinshelwood model of heterogeneous catalysis has been demonstrated. Moreover, the AgNPs-loaded nanocomposites were studied on silver release in the various media and antibacterial activity against E. coli was evaluated for all samples.
