FIELD ASPECTS OF ACETONAEMIA OF DAIRY COWS.

1956
Summary. The clinical syndrome of acetonaemia in dairy cows is presented, based on 135 consecutive cases seen in a poor dairying area where much hand-feeding was practised. A higher incidence of the disease was observed during periods when dietary intake was poor. Control of the disease in these circumstances is suggested to be by improved nutrition. Treatment of the disease was successfully accomplished with intravenous injections of glucose, oral dosing with glycerine or a combination of the two treatments. The latter resulted in immediate recovery in forty-six of fifty cases treated.
