Analyzing the Scientific Attitude among University Students beyond Traditional Class Room

It is the miracle of modern generation to have a positive look on the each and every aspect critically to reach the perfect conclusion. Unfortunately, in developing countries like Pakistan, the basic needs of classroom are not yet reached to satisfactory level. The proper utilization of innovative resources is still out of question. So, the fulfilment of learning activities outside the traditional classroom are not yet achieved. The current paper is an intention to explore the scientific attitude among students in their daily thinking. The population comprised of Honors level students. Eighty students from basic sciences and seventy-two students were selected from social sciences. The observation checklist, test and five point Likert type scale, Scientific Attitude Inventory [SAI] with .798 Cronbach Alpha value was used to investigate the students’ scientific attitude. The indicators of the instrument were, enjoyableness, difficulty, self-efficacy, relevance and logical thinking, and science application. The statistical tests, t-test and ANOVA were applied for data analysis. The results revealed that the respondents were keen observer about the things but their observation was raw. The most logical skill of developing their knowledge they used were question answer and peer interaction. Male students were found to have greater performance in showing the scientific attitude than that of female students. Basic sciences students were found to have greater performance in showing the scientific attitude than that of social sciences students. Matric with science students were found to have greater performance in showing the scientific attitude than that of matric without science students. There was statistically significant difference in the five departments except for the indicators of self-efficacy and logical thinking. There found a statistical and significant differences in the gender of students in the indicators of difficulty and application of scientific process. Male students were found to have greater difficulty and application of science concepts than that of female students. The results recommended to inspire the students towards the encouragement of promoting scientific attitude in their real life activities.
