Amniotic fluid index and Meconium stained liquor: A correlation with perinatal outcome

2016
Volume of amniotic fluid varies and has an essential effect on the condition of the fetus in the intrapartum period. Normal volume is considered to be 300 ml, variation of which determines fetal jeopardy. It is measured by a semi quantitative technique known as Amniotic Fluid index (AFI), which is a useful adjunct for antepartum surveillance. A decrease in amniotic fluid index is an important indicator of placental insufficiency which may result in fetal distress and compromise.
