Detection and management of premalignant oral leukoplakia

The diagnosis of oral leukoplakia is reserved for white lesions of the oral mucosa that cannot be characterized as other definable lesions. The malignant transformation rate of dysplastic lesions of oral leukoplakia is as high as 50%. Definitive treatment is based on clinical and histopathologic diagnosis.
