60+Gbaud real-time transmisssion over a 17680 km line designed for GEN1-SDM submarine networks

2020
This paper presents experiments of large baud-rate real-time transmission in ultra-long distance lines designed for the first generation of SDM submarine networks. 200G carriers with 60+Gbaud have been transmitted over 17680km in a transmission line that is designed to operate in the linear regime at an SDM-optimized span length. A Spectral Efficiency (SE) of 2.91 b/s/Hz was achieved over the FEC limit and 2.67 b/s/Hz was achieved with adequate margins. To our knowledge this is the longest ever transmission of a large baud-rate (>60Gbaud) real-time channel.
