Computer Simulation of Low-dispersion Spectra Obtained Using a Fehrenbach-Prism in the Converging Beam of a 1.5 m F/8.6 Telescope

1978
A computer simulation of low-dispersion spectra obtained using Fehrenbach-prisms in the converging beam of a 1.5 m F/8.6 telescope has shown that most quasars of redshift smaller than z = 2.0 can be distinguished from white dwarfs - only white dwarfs of type F may look like quasars with abnormally weak Mg II emission and with redshift between z = 0.35 and z = 0.95. With the 1.5 telescope this technique can with certainty be used down to B = 18 magnitude.
