Cineangiocardiographic studies of the left ventricle in idiopathic hypertrophic subaortic stenosis and other primary myocardial diseases.

1966
Functional obstruction of the left ventricular outflow tract secondary to muscular hypertrophy was initially reported by Brock in 1957 (1). Many reports have reviewed the clinical, hemodynamic, and roentgen findings in hypertrophic subaortic stenosis, as well as other forms of cardiomyopathy (2–8). Few reports, however, have compared the hemodynamic and left ventricular cineangiocardiographic findings in these two types of primary myocardial diseases (8). Reports of cineangiocardiographic studies in idiopathic hypertrophic subaortic stenosis have emphasized the systolic phase of the functional obstruction observed in the left ventricle, but, except for Steiner (9), little comment has been made on the cineangiocardiographic findings during diastole. This paper compares left ventricular cineangiocardiographic observations in obstructive and nonobstructive cardiomyopathies. In addition, the similarities in functional behavior of the left ventricle, as seen in cineangiocardiography, between man with idiopathi...
