Kinetics of retted jute fiber pulping by soda-quinone processes

1999
The kinetics of soda-quinone pulping of retted jute fiber have been investigated. The investigation showed three distinct phases of delignification for each of the processes. The bulk delignification rate constants was inthe order of soda-anthrone>soda-AQ>soda- DDA. The transition points between bulk and residual phases shifted to lower lignin content with the replacements of anthrone by AQ or DDA. But soda-AQ produced slightly lower carbohydrate yield than the soda-anthrone and soda-DDA processes at bulk residual transition point. Thus soda-DDA process offers better selectivity in pulping.
