Conceptual Design and Study of a 1GW VSC-HVDC Converter Platform for Offshore Wind Farm Connection

In this paper, the current status of large-scale Offshore Wind Farm connection using VSC-HVDC converter platform is firstly investigated. Secondly, the conceptual design of a 1 GW VSC-HVDC converter platform is analyzed with respect to the main electrical circuit and topside and foundation structure. In the end, a hydrodynamic and structural finite element analysis is performed to establish the necessary structural dimensions of the topside, jacket structure, and piles. Basic loads, ultimate limit state(ULS), fatigue limit state(FLS), and float over installation of structural performance are also addressed.
