Research and Measurement on Oxygen-containing functional groups in brown coal

The type and number of functional groups of coal has a great influence on the chemical properties of coal.The most important surface groups is the oxygen-containing functional groups.Oxygen-containing functional groups has large effects on the coal properties,especially surface properties,such as hydrophilic,hydrophobic,surface electrical property,surface effects and surface modes of action.Thus they have a greater impact on the sorting of coal,coal upgrading,coal conversion and rational processing and utilization. Comparing between dried coal and raw coal,the fixed carbon content was gradually increased,oxygen content was gradually decreased, the O/C ratio was also gradually decreased.The aromaticity and the average number of reduced ring of coal sample showed increasing trend with the different drying technics.The study indicated that the degree of aromatization of the dried coal to be enhanced,the drying process improved the "rank" of Inner Mongolia's brown coal.
