Characterization of gradient Vanadium Carbide Coating using Synchrotron X-ray microdiffraction

Abstract The composition and structure gradient of vanadium carbide coating on the 3Cr13 steel substrate was investigated using synchrotron X-ray microdiffraction and other techniques. A simultaneous decrease of lattice parameter and carbon concentration from the surface to the interface was found in the coating. By tailoring the configuration of the X-ray beam, enough grains were incorporated into the detection, and then the preferred orientations of the coating were also confirmed.
