Anti-N-methyl d-aspartate-type glutamate receptor antibody-positive limbic encephalitis in a patient with multiple sclerosis

2012
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an autoimmune demyelinating disase of the central nervous system. Although it often coexists with ther autoimmune diseases, its association with anti-N-methyl dspartate receptor (NMDAR) antibody-positive encephalitis, which s characterized by fulminant prominent neuropsychiatric manifesations, seizures, dyskinesias and autonomic instability [1], is rare. n this study, we describe the case of a Japanese female MS patient ho developed with anti-NMDA type glutamate receptor (GluR) ntibody-positive limbic encephalitis. The simultaneous manifesation of both diseases has never been reported to the best of our nowledge.
