This article gives the answer to the question whether GxP relevant paper documents may be transferred to an electronic version by scanning and if the original paper documents may be destroyed subsequently. According to the applicable regulatory environment this is allowed providing the process which is normally based on a risk assessment is described and validated. Furthermore a process is proposed how to handle different types of paper documents.
