An ARO based fuzzy PI+D controller for type 1 diabete

In this paper, the objective is to design a control algorithm to regulate blood sugar through measurements of blood sugar and subcutaneous injections of insulin. First, an experimentally implemented PID algorithm is reviewed and then optimized fuzzy PI+D is introduced for control a type-1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM). The optimization is carried out using ARO algorithm which is a model independent method. Simulation results show that the proposed controller is capable of regulating blood sugar in conditions of normal, when changes in meal occasions, sensor noise and changes in patient model occur.
